Fuel Petcock Problem

I took a short trip on my '98 Savage (new 3/00) a couple of weekends ago and had to switch to reserve sooner than I thought I would, guess the gas mileage at 75mph is not as good as at 45. But the tank only took 1.6 gallons, 47 mpg! Oh well, on with the trip. I had to switch to reserve again after only 45 more miles, 0.9 gallons filled her up.
Made it home with no further problems, decided to check fuel filter. Drained the tank, removed petcock, fuel filter was clear. Did notice that the vacuum hose to the petcock had a small kink in it. Also, the 4 screws that hold the front and back halves of the petcock together were not at all tight. Tightened the screws, reinstalled the petcock and fuel filter, attached vacuum hose with spring clamps on each end, no kinks. Haven't had any problems since.

This is not a new story, it's all been said on this board before. Just a reminder to check those screws and the vacuum hose before doing anything drastic. The prior posts on fuel petcock problems and cures were very helpful. Thanks guys!
